Italy0905_284The Sonoco International Business Department is widely recognized within the field of international business. Its mission is to develop and disseminate leading-edge knowledge concerning the practice of global business. Combined with the international expertise of our functional departments, the Sonoco International Business Department provides the Darla Moore School of Business with unparalleled competence in the critical area of the conduct of business across national boundaries and diverse cultures.

The department emphasizes understanding cross-border inter and intra organizational relationships comprising the modern multinational enterprise (MNE), as well as the institutional, financial, sociocultural, and sociopolitical contexts within which the MNE is embedded. While our faculty is unified by this interest, we approach issues from a wide variety of disciplinary bases. Building on this diversity, we are particularly interested in understanding international business phenomena from multidisciplinary and multilevel perspectives.

Rankings

The department offers an undergraduate international business major that has been consistently ranked as  No. 1 by U.S. News & World Report. (Ranking details.) The department also offers a highly regarded international business major at the doctoral level and contributes extensively to the international master's and executive programs of the Moore School.  The department’s commitment to excellence in the classroom is evidenced by the faculty’s numerous outstanding teacher awards at all levels.

The University of South Carolina's international business faculty has been rated #1 in research productivity by the Journal of International Business Studies.

Moore School faculty are ranked No. 1 of the top 50 U.S. universities and No. 2 of the top 50 universities worldwide in terms of the total number of research articles published.
