Program Overview

Global business must be experienced to be understood!

The International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) program at the Darla Moore School of Business offers a uniquely designed, cutting-edge international business education which prepares students for today’s global environment.

Unlike many schools where international implications are discussed only at the end of the semester, global issues and experiences permeate the business core classes in the International MBA program. The program is designed to expose students to international business issues from the first day of class.

Students entering the IMBA program can select the Language Track option, which emphasizes learning the language and culture of a region of the world, or the Global Track, which focuses on the political, economic, and business factors affecting a region of the world.  Regardless of the option chosen, all students will pursue the same common core of course work. These core courses emphasize the global aspects of various business functional areas, which is consistent with the International MBA program’s mission to provide students with expertise in the international dimensions of business.

Language Track

Because fluency in another language is often critical for success in the business world, students selecting the Language Track combine their business education with intensive language training in one of eight languages - Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or Spanish. Global Track

The objective of the Global Track is to prepare students to work anywhere within the global business community. The cornerstone of this track, in addition to the fast-paced, dynamic core business curriculum, is Regional Business Issues and Global Topics courses that provide an in-depth understanding of strategic issues affecting each major region of the world. Internationalized Core Curriculum

The purpose of the lock-step business core is to build a fundamental knowledge base in the functional areas of business. A unique aspect of the core is the emphasis on global issues associated with each functional area.

INTERNSHIP

The Moore School successfully pioneered the concept of an international internship more than a quarter-century ago. Since then, more than 4,000 students have worked as interns in more than 30 countries. All students in the International MBA program are required to spend up to 20 weeks working for a global employer. This requirement sets the International MBA program apart from its competitors. No other international business program requires its students to have an internship of this length, yet such experience is critical. Through this process, students transform what has been learned in an academic setting into marketable, practical business skills.

One cannot fully understand global business by reading a book. An internship through the Moore School is no mere road trip touring another country. Instead, as part of the International MBA program, all students live and breathe the business culture of another country, an experience that prepares them for life as a global manager. No matter where they will work in the future – in the United States or another country – they will be able to think and act globally.
