Paul S. Amos II is president of Aflac and chief operating officer of Aflac U.S. where he oversees all aspects of the U.S. operation, including approximately 4,300 employees and more than 70,000 independent sales agents. Since Amos was named president in January 2007, Aflac sales have eclipsed $10.1 billion, with annual sales averaging over $1.4 billion. In 2009, Amos managed Aflac’s acquisition of Continental American Insurance Company (CAIC), now branded as Aflac Group Insurance. The $100 million merger, Aflac’s first-ever acquisition of another insurance company, enables the company to more easily sell innovative product lines to larger accounts on a group platform; complimenting the company’s traditional individually underwritten insurance products.
In 2005, Amos joined Aflac as executive vice president of U.S. operations and was named COO in February 2006. Prior to joining the world-wide corporate headquarters, he served as state sales coordinator for Aflac’s Georgia-North operation, which grew to become the company’s No. 1 state operation under his leadership.
Amos earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and a master’s degree in business administration from Emory University. He also holds a juris doctor degree from Tulane University. He actively participates in a number of professional, philanthropic and educational organizations including the Georgia Research Alliance Board of Trustees and the Duke University Divinity School’s Board of Visitors. Amos also serves on Aflac Incorporated’s Board of Directors.
