The Sonoco Distinguished Visiting Professorship in International Business brings to the University of South Carolina a renowned senior scholar, or other suitably qualified individual, who has achieved prominence and recognition in the area of international business. Qualified candidates would include: professors of international business or related field, senior executives in business, senior executives in an international institution (e.g. World Bank, OECD), and high ranking government officials. The Sonoco Distinguished Visiting Professorship is supported by an endowment fund created by Sonoco Products Company, a global leader in the manufacture of consumer and industrial packaging products and provider of packaging services, with approximately 300 operations in 35 countries, serving customers in 85 nations. The endowment will support a professorial stipend, housing, travel, and/or a research budget based on the nature and duration of the proposed activities. The scheduling horizon is 2010-2015 and the appointment time period is flexible but is normally for one semester. The activities and responsibilities of the individual during the visiting professorship appointment may include developing joint international research activities with USC faculty, giving research seminars, teaching or guest lecturing on selected international topics, participating in executive education activities, and advising local business executives.
